نيويورك (IDN) – منذ عشرة سنوات، في 2 ديسمبر 2009، الجلسة الرابعة والستون من الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة أعلنت التاسع والعشرين من أغسطس اليوم العالمي لمحاربة التجارب النووية باتخاذ القرار بالإجماع 64\35. تم إصدار هذا القرار بواسطة جمهورية كازاخستان، مع عدد كبير من الداعمين والرعاة في ذكرى إغلاق موقع سيميبلاتينسك في 29 أغسطس 1991.

REYKJAVIK (IDN) – It was widely believed that the U.S. military left Iceland in 2006 when they abandoned the base adjoining Iceland’s international airport at Keflavik on the southwest tip of the island.

The resolution was initiated by the Republic of Kazakhstan, together with a large number of sponsors and cosponsors with a view to commemorating the closure of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test site on August 29, 1991. 核軍縮・不拡散で世界をリードする存在だと広く認められているカザフスタンが、今年の「核実験に反対する国際デー」に際して、「核兵器なき世界」の実現に尽力してきた2人の人物を表彰した。中央アジアに位置するカザフスタンは、1991年に崩壊したソ連の構成国として、かつては世界第4位の核戦力を保有していた。

10回目の「核実験に反対する国際デー」を国連が公式に記念した今年の8月29日、カザフスタンの初代大統領ヌルスルタン・ナザルバエフ氏が、包括的核実験禁止条約機構(CTBTO)準備委員会のラッシーナ・ゼルボ事務局長と、7月18日に逝去した国際原子力機関(IAEA)の故・天野之弥事務局長に対して「ナザルバエフ賞」を首都ヌルスルタン市で贈呈した。
