国連が「核兵器の全面的廃絶のための国際デー」を迎えた9月26日、アントニオ・グテーレス事務総長は、世界が直面している2つの政治的現実について強調した。

事務総長は第一に、核軍縮の進展が停滞しているどころか、むしろ「反転している」と警告した。そして第二に、「核保有国間の関係が不信に塗れており、核兵器の有用性に関する危険なレトリックが強まってきている。」と指摘した。

BOULDER, Colorado, AS (IDN) – Perang nuklir antara India dan Pakistan dapat membunuh 50-125 juta orang dalam kurun waktu kurang dari seminggu—lebih dari jumlah kematian selama enam tahun Perang Dunia II, menurut penelitian baru.

NEW YORK (IDN) – Sementara Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu memperingati Hari Antarabangsa Untuk Penghapusan Senjata Nuklear Secara Total  tahunannya pada 26 September, Setiausaha Agung António Guterres menggariskan dua realiti politik yang perlu dihadapi oleh komuniti sejagat.

Pertama sekali, bukan sahaja kemajuan dalam pelucutan senjata tergendala, tetapi “ia bergerak berbalik,” ujar beliau. Keduanya, hubungan di antara negara-negara senjata nuklear diselubungi oleh rasa curiga sementara retorik yang berbahaya tentang penggunaan senjata nuklear sedang berkembang, kata beliau.
