１月２２日に発効した核兵器禁止条約（TPNW）について、積極的意味合いをもつ国際法に新たな条約が加わったことの重要性と意義に関して、さまざまな方面から多くのコメントが寄せられている。TPNWは、第１５条１項に従って、５０カ国目が批准書を寄託してから９０日で発効する。これまでのところ、８６カ国が署名、５２カ国が批准している。

国連のアントニオ・グテーレス事務総長は、この条約を「核兵器のない世界に向けた重要な一歩」と称賛し、「共通の安全保障と集団的安全のために、このビジョンを実現するために協力する」ようすべての国に呼びかけた。世界各地のメディアは、TPNWがすべての核兵器を禁止する初めての条約であることに着目し、核保有国に強い反対論があることを指摘している。

NEW YORK (IDN) – The US mission to dominate and control the military use of space has been, historically and at present, a major obstacle to achieving nuclear disarmament and a peaceful path to preserve all life on earth.
