『私たち共通の未来を守る』と題されたアントニオ・グテーレス国連事務総長の新たな軍縮アジェンダが発表されたが、「現在の行為主体（アクター）の下で、私たち共通の未来を守れる可能性は低い」、とジャヤンタ・ダナパラ氏は記している。ダナパラ氏はスリランカの元大使で、元軍縮問題担当国連事務次長である。「私たちは、行為主体の交代を待つか、失敗した交渉の瓦礫の中から新たな出発を模索するしかありません。しかしそれも、予測不能なトランプ大統領と金正恩北朝鮮最高指導者にかかっている。」とダナパラ氏は記している。
