核兵器禁止（核禁）条約は、１月２２日の発効をもって、ますます増加する加盟国（現在は５１カ国）を拘束する国際法となる。さらには、加盟する意思のない国に対しても効果を及ぼす。

核兵器国自体が、この条約に反対するという行為によって、条約の効果を証明してしまっている。核禁条約に署名・批准しないように他国に圧力をかけるのでなく、条約を単に無視することもできたはずだからだ。

NEW YORK (IDN) – The entry into force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) on January 22 prompted many comments from different quarters on the importance and significance of this new addition to positive international law. In accordance with its Article 15.1 the Treaty entered into force 90 days after the deposit of the 50th instrument of ratification.
