NEW YORK (IDN) – Eine dreiseitige Vereinbarung zwischen den USA und dem Vereinigten Königreich über die Lieferung eines atomgetriebenen U-Boots an Australien (AUKUS) hat Atomkraftgegner auf den Plan gerufen, die befürchten, dass dies letztendlich zu einer neuen Atommacht in der Region führen könnte.

Der australische Premierminister Scott Morrison erklärte, die drei Länder hätten sich auf eine “neue, verstärkte trilaterale Sicherheitspartnerschaft” geeinigt. Die neue Vereinbarung, so Morrison, bedeute “keinen Schritt in Richtung eigener Atommacht oder Atomwaffen”.

サイバー技術や核技術の近代化競争が勢いを増す中、国連のアントニオ・グテーレス事務総長は、包括的核実験禁止条約(CTBT)を「核実験を完全に終わらせる世界の取り組みの中心」と呼んだ。事務総長の代理で中満泉・国連軍縮問題上級代表が読み上げた声明では、核実験が人間に引き起こす苦しみと環境への災害から将来世代を守る力がCTBTにはあると述べている。

グテーレス事務総長によれば、CTBTは核不拡散に対する貴重な貢献ともなっている。「核軍拡競争に歯止めをかけ、新兵器の開発に対する強力なバリアとなるものだ。」
